 LEED- AP, GREEN ASSOCIATED

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is the most widely used green building rating system in the world. LEED provides a structure for healthy, highly efficient, and cost saving green buildings. LEED certification is a globally recognized symbol of sustainability achievement and leadership. Their mission is transforming how our buildings are designed, constructed and operated through Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, because every person deserves a better, more sustainable life. Their goal is that buildings and communities will rejuvenate and sustain the health and spirit of all life within a generation.

The LEED Green Associate credential affirms a professional’s thorough understanding of green building principles and practices. In order to take the exam, you will first prep. Review the study materials and access exam prep resources. Once you have prepared, you will then take the exam which is 100 multiple choice questions that will take about 2 hours long. After passing the exam, LEED Green Associates must earn 15 continuing education hours within two years of passing their exam. 2 People know that if they are in a LEED-certified building they are using less energy and water, avoiding waste, saving on maintenance costs, improving indoor air quality, offering comfort to their occupants, and creating less environmental burden on their community. LEED wants green buildings for everyone. They also know that they are in a building that enhances health and wellness. LEED has become the most widely used green building program in the world.

  1. Erica,
Your post is very conductive in and clear in LEED and WELL. I enjoyed how you discussed the work place within LEED and WELL, but what i found most compelling was your discussion on how the LEED and WELL steps look like to take an exam and become certified. This is definitely a topic and choice we will have to research further and make as we head into our own careers, but I think overall this was well researched. Here are some articles that I found helpful in my research of LEED and WELL for exams and overall sustainability practices.

  3. While I was reading through your post I saw that you had mentioned LEED as the most widely used certification. I thought that was interesting and it made me wonder what other certifications there are for green buildings besides WELL and LEED. Since sustainability and green buildings are such a major topic now, more so than in the past, there would have to be more than just those two certifications. The Green Building Alliance gives a sort of summary of the major third-party certifications. It's interesting to see how they all focus on the one main idea of sustainability yet they all focus on slightly different aspects from energy to parking efficiency.
