Predominance of Cotton

A good day always starts the night before, with a good night's sleep. So, one way to make sure your sleep is uninterrupted is to make your bed the best it can be .In today’s market, approximately 51 percent of the bedding products is held by cotton. Organic cotton is grown without the use of any synthetic, artificial fertilizers and is a natural, renewable, and biodegradable fiber.  When you switch to cotton bedding you are improving your sleep health.

One of the reasons why cotton is a great fiber for bedding is because it is very breathable. Cotton is a pure, natural material and this means that when woven into bedding, it makes the fabric breathable. Every night your body temperature changes as you fall asleep. This generally results in waking up hot and sticky. Cotton will absorb the heat from your body throughout the night, so you will not find yourself being too hot or too cold.

Cotton is also a great fiber for bedding because it is very soft on your skin. If you have sensitive skin, you will want to prevent irritating it throughout the night as much as possible. Toxic chemicals can be especially harmful to smaller babies and children since their skin is much more sensitive.  Cotton is naturally hypoallergenic, so it has small ties with any allergies and will not cause any irritations or itchiness which will improve your quality of sleep.

Cotton also lasts much longer. These linens can be more expensive but will save you more money in the long run. The quality of the cotton depends on the thread count. The higher the thread count, usually the better the quality, durability, and comfort level. The lower the thread count of cotton tends to pill. From buying high quality cotton, you will not need to replace this bedding as frequently.

Cotton is also low maintenance. Most cotton linens can go straight into the machine and be washed as usual. It is best to wash your cotton bedding alone and by itself. This will overall give you a better wash.

  1. Erica,
This is a great post explaining the most commonly used fiber that's in our bedding. It no secret as to why most of our sheets are soft and comfortable and breathable and this is attributed to the cotton fiber which you discussed. I think it would be interesting to talk further on the negatives of cotton, as this may not suit everyone's preferences. Overall, I think this was a great post discussing the massive benefits that cotton offers and frankly the different varieties that cotton can be used in. Great job! Check out these articles as well.
